Dear Dentistry Students,

Hereby, we summarize the most important information about the course Basic Immunology in the upcoming autumn semester of 2020. With regard to the COVID-19 epidemics, and keeping the safety of the students and the teachers in priority, also in line with the Dean's recommendations, we will introduce an online education instead of the contact lessons during the whole semester.

  1. The lectures will be held as real-time live presentations at their regular time set forth by the official timetable (Mondays 12:00-13:30) using the MS Teams platform. All lectures will be recorded and later uploaded to the Department's website (www.immbio.hu) where the slides of the presentations are also available. It is possible to communicate with the teachers during the lectures using the "chat" or "webcam" in MS Teams.

  1. We will control the active participation on the lectures using online quiz questions. The questions will be available on the www.medtraining.eu website. At the beginning of the semester all students who signed up for the course will be registered to the "medtraining" system by our Department's administrator using their neptun codes. The registrations must be confirmed during the first login. At the beginning of the lectures students are asked to login into the "medtraining" system and when, during the presentation, the lecturer asks then the questions have to be answered based on the previously heard learning material. We will ask 5 questions during all lectures, all questions are 1 point. To successfully complete the course, minimum 50% of the total points must be achieved on these tests. Results above 50% will be honored with extra points which will be added to the exam points.

51%-60%             2 points

61-70%               4 points

71-80%                6 points

81-90%                8 points

above 91%         10 points

  1. We will monitor the participation on the lectures using the "medtraining" system, i.e. if somebody will not login and give answers to the online quiz questions during the lectures will be considered as "not present". Maximum 3 absences are allowed during the semester.

  1. The exams will be online tests using the "medtraining" system. The test contains 100 questions and we add the extra point from the lecture quiz. In total, min. 66 points are needed for a successful exam.

  1. We provide opportunity for personal consultation, too, in case it is required by the students. The personal consultations will take place in the Department of Immunology and Biotechnology after email scheduling. The course director is Ferenc Boldizsár MD, PhD Associate Professor (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

Best regards,

Dear Students,

In this letter we summarize the most important information about the points which can be collected during the semester in Basic Immunology.

  1. As we already stated in our previous information letter, the points which were collected during the first part of the semester (normal practices) will be counted. This means 4 or 5 tests per group depending on the timetable whether a particular group had already a practice on the last week when the normal education was ended. Those groups who had only 4 tests will have the opportunity for a make-up class after discussing with the practice teacher.
  2. The points which are collected during the online classes from the lecture topics will be added to the points above (1.). This way the total 20 points can be collected in line with what we announced in the beginning of the semester. Points over 10 will be added to the exam points.
  3. We omit the rule that minimum 10 points are needed for the signature in Basic Immunology.
  4. The points which were collected in the contact lectures will be counted.
  5. There will be no Immunology competition this year.
  6. We do not have any definitive information about the exams. We will work out the details of the exams as soon as we get the official guidelines from the Leadership of the Faculty.

Evaluation of the tests at the end of the practices:

  1. We will evaluate all the tests which were written during the online education period and calculate an average from all results (in case of multiple-choice questions we ONLY except the completely correct answers). Points will be added to the exam as below:

51%-60%             2 points

61-70%               4 points

71-80%                6 points

81-90%                8points

91% fölött            10 points

Dear Students,

We have indicated in our previous letter that we would provide additional information regarding the points collected at the practices.

First of all, we would like to point out that the points collected thus far at the lectures and practices will continue to be valid.

Regarding the points that can be collected during online practices, we have made the following decisions:

  1. At the beginning of the practice, please log in to the MS Teams program, join the "meeting" work. Then, as directed by the instructor, you will be aksed to solve 2 test questions during the first 10 minutes based on the lecture of the previous week. You will have 10 minutes to log in and 5 minutes to answer the questions on medtraining.eu. The purpose of these online questions will be similar to the 2-point tests that you had been writing during earlier practices in the classroom.

  1. The next step will be the discussion of the practical slides online. The instructor will load the ppt material (which can be the narrated material) into the MS Teams meeting, and will explain the material slide-by-slide. Meanwhile, the instructor will occasionally ask whether the material was clear. Thus, the students will have the opportunity to ask questions and get involved in the practice.

  1. Finally, in the last 15 minutes, we will post additional test questions regarding the current practical materialon medtraining.eu. You will have 5 minutes to complete the test. Based on these test results, successful completion above 50% will be counted in the year-end exam results in the form of extra points. For these tests, only the questions solved during the online education session will be counted.

Participation of the students in the practical lessons will be monitored through their registration for the tests and the rules pertaining to absences will be applied.

For general questions about education, you may send an email to Dr. Ferenc Boldizsár, the Education Officer of the Department. The email adresses of our instructors are available at www.immbio.hu,and can also be found on the Medical School’s website.

Dear Students,

From March 23, the Department of Immunology and Biotechnology - in accordance with the instruction of the Rector of the University of Pécs - will switch to the distance education of the Basic Immunology course on the Internet.

In addition to the educational materials currently available on the Department's website (www.immbio.hu), we have begun uploading educational materials with correspomding audio content. As recommended by the University of Pécs, our distance education will be conducted according to the existing timetable, i.e. each group will have online practice once a week and lectures will be held online according to the original schedule.

Both the lecture presentations and the practical slides will be provided with audio material, and these files will be made available for download. The upcoming weeks’ practical slideshows with audio materials will be uploaded to the Department's website by the end of the preceding week, which will be announced in NEPTUN.

During the practical lessons we will spend 60 minutes watching these slides with audio, at the time according to the group schedule. You will then have the opportunity for online discussion with the instructor (preferably joining groups created on the Microsoft Teams interface) and to ask questions for 20 minutes. Finally, during the last 10-15 minutes, we will post test questions of the weekly materials on www.medtraining.eu. Participation of the students in the practical lessons will be monitored through their registration for the tests and the rules pertaining to absences will be applied. The results of the tests will be recorded and included in the end-of-semester test results, details of which will be communicated to you later.

For general questions about education, you may send an email to Dr. Ferenc Boldizsár, the Education Officer of the Department. The email adresses of our instructors are available at www.immbio.hu, and can also be found on the Medical School website.

Successful online distance learning will require a smart device with internet connection (smartphone, tablet), but most effective might be a laptop or a PC. In order to make the transition to distance learning as smooth as possible, we ask students who currently do not have the necessary technical tools at their location or will not be able to obtain them by the coming week, please contact us and we will try to find an alternative solution.

We hope that with your active and constructive participation we can successfully launch distance learning.
